
RSSI Scholarship
The Railway Systems Suppliers, Inc. (RSSI) scholarship represents an opportunity to help you continue your education in preparation for a career in business, industry or the professions. In seeking consideration, you have made an important investment in your future. The members of Railway Systems Suppliers, Inc. share your hope that you will be successful.
The RSSI scholarship program is open to RSSI member companies only. The Scholarship Program packet and applications are sent to the RSSI Contact Officer of each member company in early February. The Contact Officer, or their designate, is responsible for disseminating the information to employees.
To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Eligibility: Children, stepchildren, grandchildren and step-grandchildren of employees of members in good standing who have been a member of RSSI a minimum of four consecutive years and are current high school seniors attending a North American high school, planning to attend a North American accredited institution of higher learning. Subsidiary companies of RSSI member companies must be involved in the signal and communication supply segment of the rail industry.
- Scholarship shall be a maximum of four (4) consecutive years’ duration. One semester of overseas study is permitted. Award recipient must submit proof of overseas study.
- Must have taken either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and scored a combined minimum of 900 on the Critical Reading and Math sections, or the American College Test (ACT) and scored a minimum of 23. Canadian and Mexican applicants must have taken the U.S. SAT or ACT criteria. Note: The Writing section of the SAT is not included in the minimum score.
- Shall submit transcript of 3 ½ years of High School, including GPA, class rank and full transcript.
- Submit an essay of approximately 500 words as directed in the application.
- Will retain scholarship by maintaining during each school year, an average of 3.0 out of 4.0 and continue to maintain a status of full time student. At least one fourth of the requirements for the degree must be completed each year so the student will be classified as Sophomore, Junior and Senior for each of the next three years.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited North American institution of higher learning (two year or four year) before payment is made.
- Will submit two letters of recommendation, one being from students High School Counselor.
Amount of Award & Disbursement of Money
$2,000 per year for up to four consecutive years.
1. To be made in two equal payments ($1,000 per semester).
2. To be made directly to the student upon receipt of proof of registration for the next semester and proof of current Grade Point Average (must maintain at least 3.0 out of 4.0).
All information must be complete. Incomplete or missing information will result in disqualification. Read and follow the instructions carefully. The completed application and all attachments must be received by June 1st of the year the scholarship is requested. Please note that faxed or electronically submitted applications will not be considered.
